Under the education component, PISP has established various education infrastructures such as dormitories, classrooms, dining halls and built the capacity of the School Management Committees in the management of their learning institutions. Under this initiative, PISP targeted two most marginalized and minority communities of the Elmolo and the Dasananch. PISP through funding from CDTF/EU (Community Development Trust Fund) constructed and equipped modern educational facilities at Elmolo and Illeret Primary schools.
PISP has also penetrated further into the mobile families through Alternative Basic Education (ABE) provision approaches such as mobile schools, feeder schools and shepherd classes to enable the school going age children among the nomadic families acquire basic education. PISP had also previously provided scholarship support to about 250 bright high school students from the very poor family backgrounds.
In partnership with UNICEF Education section and Ministry of Education PISP in 2010/2011 spearheaded an enrolment campaign in greater Marsabit District dubbed ‘Let’s go to school 2011’.The campaign which received huge support from local leadership was a resounding success in terms of improved access to both ECD centres and primary school class one admissions. The campaign enrolled additional 2425 pupils above the same period admissions in 2010.
