Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

The organization in collaboration with the development partners such as DFID/Maji na Ufanisi, ECHO/CORDAID, Caritas Austria, UNICEF WASH Section, Concern World Wide, Constituency Development Funds and Japanese Embassy built wide range of rain-harvesting water structures in vast areas of the county that lack any form of reliable water sources and instituted alternative form of livelihood for the pastoralist, fisher folks and other minorities to reduce shocks that associate with the recurrent episodes of the devastating drought phenomenon.

The water storage structures included underground masonry ground runoff harvesting tanks, underground masonry roof harvesting tanks, above ground plastic roof harvesting tanks and above ground masonry roof runoff harvesting tanks built by PISP in collaboration with the local communities and through the support from her partners since the year 2000. To date PISP have established 42 rainwater-harvesting subterranean (underground) tanks, 9 new earth pans and desilting of 5 earth pans, 55 aboveground tanks for schools, 56 sand dams, 5 rock catchments, 3 water distribution systems (pipeline) and improved 205 shallow wells.
